When it comes to running a car or any automobile you must ensure you undertake regular care and maintenance of your vehicle. Automobiles need constant looking after and regular activity to stay in peak condition, much like your household pet. Whether it is the tires, brakes, engine oil, or battery there are many components that make up a vehicle, all of which can cause problems if they are not adequately maintained. To help you keep on top of your automobile maintenance here are three essential components that require regular ongoing care and attention. 

#1. Tire pressure and tread.

The pressure in your tires will drop over time and each tire will have to meet the minimum tire pressure required to be safe and legal on the road. Check your vehicle’s handbook to determine the safe tire pressure and ensure that you regularly monitor your vehicle’s tire pressure so that it is compliant with the requirements.

Tire tread depth is also subject to minimum requirements, which if they are not met will result in your car being a danger to yourself and other road users. Be sure to keep an eye on your tire tread depth and replace any tires that are deemed unroadworthy to keep you safe on the road.

#2. Brakes

The importance of a fully functioning braking system does not need to be explained. It is important to note however that brakes can deteriorate quickly if they are not regularly used or properly maintained. Common areas for complaints are erosion of the brake discs or general wear and tear on the brake pads. Ensure your vehicle is serviced regularly so that the condition of your brakes is adequately protected. 

#3. Liquids

Again, much like your household pet, your automobile needs a certain amount of liquids to survive. Here are some of the fluid levels you need to be aware of and that need to be topped up to keep your automobile in good health.

• Engine oil; the main role of engine oil is to lubricate all the parts of an engine and without it, the engine will grind, seize up and the vehicle will stall. Ultimately this could result in the complete destruction of your vehicle’s engine and roadworthiness. Be sure to keep your engine levels topped up and use the best oil for your vehicle. Coolant and antifreeze; failure to use coolant and antifreeze could see your vehicle to suffer serious damage to the radiator and other components of the water in your vehicle overheating or freezes. Just as coolant is designed to prevent the water from overheating and damaging your automobile’s internal components.
