4th of July is time to celebrate the shot-taking efforts of our founding fathers, and what better way to do so than with a tequila brand that knows a thing or two about taking shots and breaking traditions.
Take a peek at three cocktails from Hornitos Tequila that are perfect for the holiday – whether you want to mix up a festive red cocktail with Hornitos’ Basil Paloma, something blue with the Blueberry Mint Smash or something light and refreshing like the Green Tea-quila. All of these festive cocktails are sure to be a hit!
Basil Paloma
- 2 parts Hornitos® Black Barrel® Tequila
- 1 ¼ parts fresh ruby red grapefruit juice
- 1 part fresh lime juice
- ½ part simple syrup
- 1 dash Angostura® bitters
- Basil sprigs
- Grapefruit slice
Preparation: Lightly muddle 2-3 basil sprigs in a shaker. Add remainder of ingredients into the shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a highball glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a basil sprig and grapefruit slice.

Blueberry Mint Smash
- 1 ½ parts Hornitos® Black Barrel® Tequila
- ½ part fresh lime juice
- ½ part simple syrup
- Blueberries
- Mint sprigs
Preparation: Lightly muddle 6-8 blueberries and 3-5 mint leaves in a shaker. Add remainder of ingredients into the shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a julep cup over crushed ice. Garnish with a mint sprig and blueberries.
Green Tea-quila
- 1 ½ parts Hornitos® Plata Tequila
- 2 parts fresh brewed green tea
- 1 part simple syrup
- ¾ part fresh lemon juice
- Lemon wedge
Preparation: Combine ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a highball glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a lemon wedge.
