Suffering sickness and ill health is never a fun time, no matter if you’re dealing with a huge hangover, food poisoning, or perhaps a more serious illness you need to manage. At these times, loss of appetite is not just a general feeling most people have, but a real symptom of your body trying to clear itself out, or prevent any other issues. This can be a problem because when we’re ill we need calories and good nutrition in order to heal more readily. It’s what provides our body with food, after all.
There’s also a logistical issue to consider here. It’s not as if you’re going to bring out all of your cool kitchen appliances, tools, and spices in order to craft a beautiful new recipe when you’re feeling awful and just wish to lie in bed all day. But ordering food via a food delivery app can also become quite expensive if you’re not careful.
So – where are we to begin? In this post, we’ll discuss a few foods that remain tasty to eat, even when you’re ill, and why having a few recipes like this can be so worthwhile.
Try Chicken Soup
Chicken noodle soup or instant pot chicken tortilla soup can be fantastic for those who might be ill, because it’s very easy to prepare (often in one simple pot), and tastes delicious. You can also eat it quite easily, effectively drinking the calories without losing out on taste or a feeling of being satiated. Chicken soup also holds plenty of proteins, vitamins, and minerals, and as such is very good for you. In many cases, it has been reported to help alleviate headaches and nausea too. So, don’t be afraid to keep things simple.
Spicy Foods
The idea of wolfing down a huge spicy curry in the middle of your illness is probably not that nice, but there’s no reason why spicy Latin, Indian or Thai appetizers will be harder to eat than anything else. Spicy foods contain a chemical called capsaicin which has been known to help with pain relief and even serves as a decongestant. So if you’re looking to clear those sinuses a little, this can be a great place to start. Moreover, when you’re sick you tend not to be able to taste very much anyway, which means a blast of spice isn’t going to be as tough as you had imagined.
Ginger
From ginger biscuits to ginger ale and teas, or simply a little ginger as a palate cleanser as you might enjoy when eating seafood can be wonderful – as this vital ingredient has been known to clear colds, help with digestive issues, and more pronounced stomach problems. Ginger can be a natural addition if you’re suffering from a stomach bug, allowing you to better treat yourself along with your medication in a completely natural, and often quite refreshing manner.
With this advice, we hope you can get back to good health as soon as possible; and do so with care. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids!
