I absolutely love to travel around the great state of Texas, and although I’ve visited San Antonio on many occasions, I never tire of this historic and lively city. There is so much to do and see and so many wonderful places to stay, but on my last visit I had the opportunity to stay at an amazingly beautiful boutique hotel ~ The Hotel Valencia!
The Hotel Valencia is located on the famous San Antonio Riverwalk so that in itself is a great reason to choose this location. It felt great to walk out of the hotel and immediately be where so much of the action was taking place instead of blocks away from the best part of San Antonio. As soon as I arrived at The Hotel Valencia, I was greeted with valet parking and a extraordinary view of the hotel. This hotel has recently completed a 10 million dollar renovation of the hotel and the first in fourteen years. The result of the redesign includes all of the charm and heritage of San Antonio along with the peaceful and tranquil Riverwalk environment and it’s gorgeous!
One of my favorite spots in the hotel is the case that holds more than 100 glass oranges. At first I wasn’t sure why there were so many displayed but upon closer inspection, I realized that they were all signed by celebrities who have been guests of Hotel Valencia. Guests such as The Jonas Brothers, Alice Cooper and Foreigner had their own oranges and there were actually so many that soon the hotel will need a bigger display case! The oranges are hand-blown by a local artist and add not only a bit of color to the hotel, but also a great conversation piece and something distinct to the decor.
There are displays of unique artwork, furniture and other cool items throughout the hotel and plenty of photo opportunity spots to take advantage of with such beauty all around, including in my room. The room was very tastefully decorated with a very large framed mirror that I’d love to have in my room at home, a beautifully carved headboard on the comfy king-sized bed, and the most comfortable chair and ottoman that I’ve ever experienced! Seriously, this chair is one that I could fall asleep in! From the furniture to the bathroom toiletries to the incredible view from my room, everything was perfect!
Although I would have been perfectly happy to stay in my luxurious room for the entire weekend, I did venture out into the hotel for dinner at the on-site restaurant, Dorregos. I’ve never experienced dinner like I did at this Argentinean inspired restaurant. The Executive Chef has created a distinct and innovative menue based on Argentina heritage along with showcasing only fresh, locally grown ingredients. To start with, I chose the tequila-flamed imported Argentine provolone cheese. Wow! Delicious!!! I followed my appetizer with the De La Casa salad and then the Chicken Milanese. I can honestly tell you that there was no room for dessert! I did however, order dessert via room service later that night!
I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to stay at The Hotel Valencia. The staff was very accomodating and genuinly friendly on every level and I would highly recommend this hotel when visiting San Antonio. The design, location and even the aura of The Hotel Valencia is upscale and very impressive.
