January always give you a time to reflect on the things you want to do with your life. While so many people make resolutions they can’t keep, others use the opportunity to wipe the slate clean and really prioritise and focus on what they want from their lives for now and for the next twelve months. Some people look at improving themselves in some way, their financial situation perhaps, but most like the idea of stepping out of their comfort zone and doing something different. One thing many people dream about but never take any solid steps to do is to act or be in a film or on the small screen like tv shows. But why not? So if this happens to be an aspiration of yours, then these four options could be for you. I hope it gives you the motivation and the push you need to take that leap of faith and try something new.
Learn the trade
Some people assume that you can either act or your can’t, but actually, some acting skills can be learned behaviour as you fine tune your emotions, your reactions and delivery. This is when looking into classes, and different options like the Meisner Technique could be worthwhile. You may also want to look into other classes for performing arts such as music and singing or even dance. All of which can help you to fine-tune your presence and provide you with the confidence to succeed.
Start out by being an extra
Sometimes any experience is a good experience so it may be worth trying your hand at being an extra. This will help you take direction, as well as feeling confident on the set as this can be quite overwhelming. Extras do get paid quite well, and it could be something that you work around your current schedule while you get a feel for it. You never know, some extras have gone on to secure main parts in long-running shows as directors and agents spot potential.
Get on the small screen for just a one-off
So you may not want a fully fledged acting career, or even like the idea of being an extra on set, but you may still have the dream of being on TV at least once. This is when you may want to sign up as a contestant on a show. You could be on a quiz show with big time cash prizes on offer, or even on something that is challenging, either physically or mentally. There are plenty of options available, and the opportunity to win big could be too much to turn down.
Be registered with an agency
Finally, it is a good idea to become registered with an agency. They may be able to secure other jobs in front of the camera like modeling or extra work, and they can often put you forward for auditions that you may not be aware of if you were trying to secure work on your own. Sometimes there is a fee for promotional shots, but you need to decide whether it is worth it for the opportunities that could come your way.
I hope that this inspires you to take some positive steps to get yourself on the big or small screen this year.
