When it comes to self-care all of us know about taking a day off for mental health now and again, or having a king bath or pamper session when we are in need of it.
But self-care also applies to our physical health and wellbeing. Sit down and ask yourself, when was the last time you went to the doctor? If you haven’t been this year – this is a sign you need to book a checkup and give your body an MOT.
There are many different tests and checks you should take regularly at your doctor, and today we want to share some of the ones you should consider investing in this Christmas.
A flu jab
If you are not on a vulnerable person’s list such as having asthma or being older; you may not have thought of getting your flu jab. However, it is important to get your flu jab every year if possible to reduce your risk of catching the flu. Flu can be nasty and a new strain evolves every year – and if you are not vaccinated against it you can stand to lose a week or two of your life stuck in bed ill.
An eye test
Checking up on the health of your eyes is an important thing you can not afford to miss out on each year. Your eyes are the window through which you see the world, and if you lose your eyesight it can really impact the quality of your life. Take the time this winter to go for an eye test and ensure that your eyesight is strong and up to scratch.
A blood test
Taking a blood test might not seem like a normal checkup – however, a multitude of things can be tested with a blood test which can help you stay healthy. For example, you can take a blood test to find out if you have too much iron in your blood or too little; to see if you have a vitamin deficiency, and to check cholesterol levels. Having a blood test is a good idea and it will give your body an internal once over to ensure you aren’t suffering from something you weren’t aware of.
An allergy test
It is important to take an allergy test at least once in your life. There are many things you could be allergic to such as dust, animal fur, nuts, dairy, fruit, vegetables, chemicals, and more. Checking for allergies will allow you to avoid things you may be allergic to and ensure you don’t fall ill.
A hearing test
Hearing is one of the 2 most important senses and it can make a big difference to your life. Visiting an audiologist is important now and again throughout your life to ensure that you don’t have wax putting pressure on your eardrum and to ensure you are able to hear properly. Maintaining a strong sense of hearing is important for you throughout your life.
Take the time to do these checkups this winter and ensure that you stay fit and healthy for longer!
