Every once in a while, a bad day comes along and can knock the wind right out of your sails. And the sad truth is most of us aren’t great at making time for our self-care, and that can lead to feeling less than nourished. Self-care should be something you can do at any time of day. Something that you know makes you feel good.
Self-care is pretty personal. For some people, self-care is watching ASMR videos, and for others, it’s reading a book in the bath. It should be something that suits you and something that you need.
But just for the next couple of hours, take yourself off of the back burner, put yourself as a priority, and pamper yourself.
It is essential to know that your general health is not part of self-care. It is something that should be taken care of all the time. So it’s time to stop putting off that dentist appointment, stop pushing back the appointment with your optometrist, and pick up any of those vital things to help you live more comfortably. Like walking sticks, memory foam mattresses and pillows, and perhaps even a little foot bath.
Hair
If you have damaged hair, a lot of split ends, or your hair is quite dry, then take a few minutes to add some moisture to it. There are so many hair products; it can be challenging to choose what’s right for you. For this, though, you can use a simple item from your kitchen.
You can use a little olive oil and a warm towel to infuse your hair with moisture. You simply smooth oil between your hands and apply it just to the ends of your hair. The ends of the hair are typically where the hair is destressed, and it avoids getting your scalp greasy. Wrap your hair in a warm towel, and that oil will soak in. Simply rinse as usual.
Moisturize
The chances are that even if it doesn’t look at, your skin is pretty dry. You should be drinking as much water as possible, but let’s face it, most of us don’t. So it’s time to find a moisturizer with at least 90% or more natural ingredients. You should be using it at least three times a week, although the preference is every day.
If you have been storing a body butter or a lotion for a special occasion, treat every day as your special occasion. Slather on your cream and listen to your favorite music while it soaks in.
Scrub
Ideally, you should get a scrub at least once a week. Many people don’t want to spend a lot of cash on expensive scrubs when you can make them at home. Using something as simple as olive oil and brown sugar, you can use circular motions to buff away all of the dry and dead skin cells.
Using an oil like argan oil or coconut oil will leave your skin feeling soft, and the brown sugar will do all of the hard work for you.
Those are three simple steps that can help you feel refreshed and pampered and most likely will take less than an hour to do.
