So you’ve got a night out coming up and you’re very excited because you’ve been planning it for the longest time. Great! However, while you focus on trying to find ways to have fun all night long, don’t forget that you also need to stay safe. Clubs and bars, though thrilling, can equally be filled with all sorts of people, some of which may not be the cream of the crop.
To avoid ending up a victim of crime, you need to keep some certain things in mind. Remember, that the best kind of night out, is a safe night out. Based on that, let’s have a look at some of the tips that can help you stay safe while you’re on your night out.
- Drink in moderation
If you’re drinking on your night out, be aware of your limits and make sure you don’t exceed them. Getting too drunk while you’re out can put you in danger of being a target for robbery, harassment, or worse. At the very least, it’ll earn you a night in county jail. You may think that a few extra drinks are harmless, but that’s all it takes for things to go south.
In addition to this, ensure that you closely monitor your drink. So, if it’s been out of your sight for more than a few seconds, you may want to avoid the drink all together as it could have been spiked, especially if you’re in a public place. To be on the safe side, leaving your drink unattended is a no-no.
- Stay close to your group
If you’ve come out with a group of friends, it would do you good to stay close to them as much as possible. If you wander off on your own, that can lead to you getting targeted by people who are trying to exploit the vulnerable. Try to move around in your group, and even if you need to go to the bathroom, go with at least one other person.
- Book a taxi if you’ve been drinking
You should know by now that drinking and driving should never mix. It’s mostly because alcohol temporarily messes with your brain function, which can lead to an accident if you get behind the wheel. Drunk driving accidents can further result in brain injuries for you and/or the other driver/s, and a traumatic brain injury may cause loss of consciousness, seizures, and loss of coordination.
Not only does this put a life at risk, but it worsens the situation.
It would be much safer for everyone if you booked a licensed taxi to take you to your destination if your alcohol consumption is a bit too much.
- Hide your valuables
While you’re out, you have to be as alert as humanly possible. Even more, if you are sporting any valuables such as expensive jewelry, you might want to put them away as robbers who easily spot this can target you throughout the night. Also, try to keep your phone, purse, and wallet safely stored away in your bag or in your pocket.
Once again, the importance of only drinking within your limit cannot be overstated. Being drunk can hinder your attentiveness in different situations, making you a lot more vulnerable to being robbed by people on the street or inside the bar/club.
