You Get To Do What You Want
Let’s face it, when we’re so busy in life, we crave that alone time, purely because we get to do what we want when we want. And whether this is time alone so you can go on Slotathon or just give yourself that opportunity to go for a bath without anybody bothering you it’s these things which makes everyone feel good. It’s like when you go to the movies, you usually have to make compromises with the other person, but if you go by yourself you can choose the movie you want to see. Simple, isn’t it?
You Learn To Function Under Your Own Steam
Part of the fear in being alone is that we think will get bored or we worry about being alone. And if you’re someone who isn’t used to being by themselves, this is very normal but the more you do it, the more you will realize that it’s not a bad thing, and in fact, you are able to occupy yourself. And even if you worry about being bored, can you actually get bored nowadays? Believe it or not, getting bored is something that is good for us because we have to come up with solutions to stave off this boredom and not only this.
Time to yourself in a solitary sense is good for you, believe it or not. It gives you time to disconnect from the modern world and go deep into your own psyche, so you can replenish your mind, improve your concentration, and work through problems in your life. When we are so preoccupied with the little things, we believe these to be the most important duties to tick off in our brain. And we can only decide what’s important to us when we take a step away from the never-ending treadmill that is life. Sometimes we can feel like we’re in the eye of the storm, and this doesn’t benefit us in any way. But time to yourself, especially in solitude, gives you that opportunity to break away from group thinking, peer pressure, not to mention that social media mentality where you are constantly thinking about what might be going on without you. This fear of missing out is very common and is one of the reasons many people are undergoing a social media detox. But remember, if you disconnect, it’s that initial time period afterward where you can feel your brain constantly moving, almost going through cold turkey, but as soon as you get over this you will begin to see everything with more clarity, and you realize what’s important to you.
It Improves Your Relationships With People
From the outside looking in, time to yourself doesn’t appear to improve relationships with anyone, but from your perspective, having that opportunity to recharge your brain can make you a better conversationalist. This is especially true when we are so tired that when we take the opportunity to meet up with our friends on a Friday night, but we have very little to say, it’s very likely because we are mentally exhausted. And if you live with someone, that opportunity to sit by yourself, and enjoy the silence is greatly underestimated. Some people can’t function under their own steam at all but time alone in relationships is actually good. If you both spend time together and apart, not only does it give you the opportunity to pursue interests outside of the relationship but doing this helps to rejuvenate yourself as a unit. And when we give so much of ourselves to other people, that opportunity to have something that’s for us is very limited now. But this little act of self-imposed solitary is good for us, we have just got to get over the initial hump.
And if you’re ready to spend time by yourself, you are more than aware of what it can do for you. Maybe it’s just sitting in a coffee house reading a book, meditation, or just going for a walk. Whatever you do, this time to yourself replenishes your brain, makes you feel more confident, and it can improve your relationships with other people. As far as it is considered akin to loneliness, maybe we should all desire a bit more alone time.
